In its largest form, the Alexis Oehler shell bowl is stunning. The hard and rough of the concrete contrasts perfectly with the inlay of gold and silver leaf plate. The casting process involves a mould of two identical bowl-shaped sections, filled with concrete, the amount of which determining the wall thickness and lip width of the bowl. The differing water patterns on the inner surface formed in the casting process ensure that each bowl is unique. The bowl is treated with a base coat, followed by a coating of oil (to prepare for the gold or silver leaf) and finished with varnish for water resistance. A choice of silver or gold leaf plate, intricate, black or natural.
